In 1945, a B-25 bomber accidentally crashed into the Empire State Building due to intense fog, claiming the lives of 14 people. Amongst other damages, the plane severed the cables of the elevator and the operator inside, Betty Lou Oliver, fell 75 stories to the basement, somehow managing to survive. She still holds the world record for the longest survived elevator fall.

Samolot uszkodził m.in. kable windy, a znajdująca się w środku operatorka, Betty Lou Oliver, spadła z wysokości 75 pięter do piwnicy. Udało jej się jednak przeżyć. Nadal utrzymuje rekord świata w kategorii najdłuższego przetrwanego upadku z windy.
