General Stanisław Maczek and his Polish 1st Armoured Division made history during WWII with a series of victories in France, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. The heroic general and his soldiers did not lose a single battle. They closed the Falaise Pocket #OTD in 1944, liberated Breda, the POW camp in Oberlangen, and concluded the war by capturing the German Kriegsmarine naval base in Wilhelmshaven. After the war, General Maczek made Scotland his home, as communists in Poland took his citizenship. Denied a general entitlements and even a soldier's pension by the British, he worked as a bartender.
