Polish Pilot Officer Witold Józef Głowacki, injured and dazed, stands beside his Mk.I Hawker Hurricane (P3832) UP-P of 605 Squadron RAF.
On 24 September 1940, after downing a German Dornier 17 bomber, he was attacked from behind by Messerschmitt Bf 109s and shot down over Cap Gris Nez. Captured and taken to an aid station in Guînes, he died later that night from his injuries.
